Summer is the perfect season for light, protein-rich, and easily digestible foods - and fish is irreplaceable in this regard. However, not all fish are equally recommended for a summer menu.

During summer, it’s especially recommended to choose light, protein-rich, and less fatty fish because they are easier to digest and won’t overburden your digestive system in hot weather. Heavy or fatty fish can spoil quickly in high temperatures, increasing the risk of food poisoning or bacterial infections.

The Best Fish for Summer:

Salmon

Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which reduce inflammation in the body, improve cardiovascular function, support healthy skin and hair, and enhance brain performance. During summer, Norwegian salmon is an ideal choice - it pairs perfectly with cold salads, sandwiches, and fresh lemon and herbs.

Norwegian salmon is vacuum-packed, ensuring safe storage and stability even in high-temperature conditions.

Herring

Herring is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, B-complex vitamins, and iron. It is traditionally popular in Georgian cuisine and especially favored during summer - considered a “king of cold-water fish. Herrit fillets complement salads perfectly and provide a wealth of essential nutrients for the body.

Canned herring is perfect for all weather conditions - it is a ready-to-eat product.

Choose fresh or prepared herring, and rinse it with water or milk before use to remove excess salt and ensure better digestibility.

Capelin

Cold-smoked capelin is a small, oily fish rich in proteins and omega-3 fatty acids, which makes it easily digestible and perfectly suitable for an energy-enriched, low-calorie diet. It is also an excellent source of vitamin D and selenium, supporting the immune system and bone health.

During the summer, the body craves light, cold, and easily digestible foods - cold-smoked capelin fits this need perfectly. Its aromatic texture and delicate, rich flavor pair ideally with fresh cucumber, lemon, whole-grain bread, or arugula salad. It is also perfect for sandwiches, arranged elegantly on top of bread, or as a protein-rich addition to salads.
